Vitamin B12 plays an important role in energy production, nervous system function, red blood cell formation, and overall wellness. But not all B12 forms are exactly the same. Two common forms used in IV wellness therapy are methylcobalamin (Methyl B12) and hydroxocobalamin (Hydroxo B12).

Both forms can support healthy B12 levels, but they work slightly differently in the body. Understanding the difference can help you choose which is right for you.

What Is Methyl B12?

Methyl B12, or methylcobalamin, is an active form of vitamin B12. This means it is already in a form the body can use directly.

What Is Hydroxo B12?

Hydroxo B12, or hydroxocobalamin, is another natural form of vitamin B12. Unlike methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin is converted by the body into the active B12 forms it needs. Hydroxo B12 is often considered a longer lasting form because it tends to remain in the body longer.

Choosing Between Methyl B12 and Hydroxo B12

Both Methyl B12 and Hydroxo B12 can support healthy B12 levels, energy production, nervous system function, and red blood cell formation. The main difference is how they are used.

Methyl B12 is an active form of B12 and is available at Infusion Oasis as an add-on to most IV therapies or as a standalone injection for clients looking for more focused B12 support.

Hydroxo B12 is a longer lasting form of B12 and is included only in the Myers’ Cocktail IV as part of a balanced vitamin and mineral blend.

For a diagnosed B12 deficiency, clients should follow guidance from their healthcare provider, since treatment depends on lab results, symptoms, and the cause of deficiency.
